(WWJ) -- Although the recent snowstorms may have you thinking differently, metro Detroit is actually well behind the normal snow totals for December.
AccuWeather forecaster Brian Thompson said metro Detroit has only reported a little more than three inches of snow for the entire month.

Usually, by this time of the month, we'd have about nine inches.
In addition to less snow, temperatures have been well above average.
"It's certainly been a warm month," said Thompson.
So far this month, the average temperature is sitting at about 44 degrees Fahrenheit. This high average could be attributed to Dec. 11 and Dec. 16 when the temps went above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
The normal December temperatures for metro Detroit are around 37 or 38 degrees Fahrenheit.
