DEARBORN (WWJ) - A Detroit man was arrested and arraigned this week on charges stemming from a January bank robbery in Dearborn where he allegedly demanded money and threatened to detonate a bomb.

According to the Dearborn Police Department, Kevin Joseph Rodriguez, a 30-year-old Detroit resident, was taken into custody on Monday, March 20 at his home in connection to the case that took investigators two months to piece together.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a multi-count felony complaint against Rodriguez to include Bank Robbery, False Report/Threat of a Bomb, and Wearing a Mask to Commit a Crime.

Rodriguez is accused of committing a bank robbery at Dearborn Federal Credit Union off Oakwood Blvd. on Wednesday, Jan. 18. According to police, a suspect wearing a bright blue Detroit Pistons hooded sweater with a grey winter hood and a white N-95 style mask came into the building and approached a teller.

He then demanded money be turned over to him, police added.

"He informed the teller that he had a bomb and threatened to ignite it," authorities continued. "After receiving an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, the suspect fled the scene in a silver 4-door Chevrolet Cobalt."

The department said investigators spent the following weeks gathering evidence and tracking down the suspect, who they identified as Rodriguez.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin praised the investigation and said his department is committed to keeping the community safe.

"Any actions that put our community in danger will not be tolerated in the City of Dearborn, and we will continue to use all available resources to bring perpetrators to justice," he stated.

During his arraignment, Rodriguez was given a a $50,000 cash bond. He is due back in court for a Preliminary Exam scheduled for April 7 at 9 a.m.
