Detroit man charged in deadly Gratiot crash

(WWJ) Authorities say a 27-year-old man was speeding when he caused a fatal crash in Detroit last Sunday.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Cortez Henry Kimble of Detroit in connection with the incident at the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and Baldwin Street, on the city's east side.

According to investigators, shortly before noon on Aug. 8, Kimble was driving southbound on Gratiot at a high rate of speed when he struck the victim before fleeing the scene.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead when EMS arrived. Officials have not released any details about the person.

An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to Kimble's arrest the following day.

Worthy said Kimble is charged with one count of Driving While License Suspended Causing Death, one count of Failure to Stop at a Scene of an Accident Causing Death, and one count of Moving Violation Causing Death.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in 36th District Court on Thursday.
