DETROIT (WWJ) - One Detroit man was arraigned on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, for the shooting death of his younger brother the morning of March 31.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced the charges against Christopher Johnson, 32, of Detroit on Monday; Johnson faces one count of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Discharge in or at a Building Causing Death, one count of Felon in Possession, and one count of Felony Firearm.
Authorities accuse Johnson of shooting his brother, Dazion Zachary, 23, also of Detroit, after the two family members got into a heated argument around 1 a.m. last Thursday.
Police responded to the scene at a residence on the 11700 block of Sussex Street in Detroit after 1:15 a.m. after receiving reports about a person with a weapon. Officers found Zachary in the basement; he suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead on scene.
Worthy said that Johnson is accused of firing a handgun through a closed door, fatally striking the victim.
After the shooting, police said Johnson fled the scene, prompting a brief manhunt as officers searched the area.
Johnson was eventually taken into police custody; he was arraigned and remanded to jail on Monday in the 36th District Court,
Johnson's next court date as been scheduled for April 19 at 8:30 a.m.
