HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) – A Detroit man could be facing child abuse charges after police caught him driving recklessly with his daughter in the car.

Michigan State Police troopers spotted the man driving recklessly in Highland Park around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

The driver, later identified as a 26-year-old from Detroit, eventually pulled into the driveway of a home in the 16500 block of Inverness, near McNichols and Livernois on the city’s west side.

MSP officials say the driver ran through the house and out the back door, leaving his 3-year-old daughter sleeping in the car.

The child was sitting on top of the buckled seat belt on the front passenger seat, according to MSP officials.

The suspect left his wallet with his identification inside of it in the vehicle.

While troopers were investigating the incident, someone inside the home called the suspect. Troopers spoke with him and he eventually returned to the home.

The suspect was taken into custody. The case has been sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and he could be facing multiple charges, including child abuse, according to MSP. The suspect’s name has not been released, pending prosecutor review.
