DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.

“After two years, Covid finally caught up with me,” Duggan said on Twitter Sunday afternoon.

The mayor says he woke up Saturday morning with a cough and took an at-home COVID-19 test. While it came back negative, Duggan says the cough persisted Sunday morning and a second at-home test came back positive.

Duggan will be working full-time from home on Zoom until he is cleared to return to in-person work, he said.

“I’m really glad I got the booster shot. The symptoms I have are mild - much like an average cold. Fortunately, my wife Sonia has tested negative,” Duggan said.

The mayor is encouraging anyone who hasn’t received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to do so.

“When you get that positive Covid result, it’s a great relief to know you’re likely protected from serious symptoms,” he said.

More information on COVID-19 vaccination locations in Detroit can be found on the city’s website. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 313-230-0505 Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
