DETROIT (WWJ) - Applications for recreational marijuana licenses within the City of Detroit are now open, officials announced Thursday morning.
The city began accepting applications promptly at 8 a.m. on Sept. 1 for adult-use retailers, microbusiness, and designated consumption establishments that look to sell marijuana and other related products for recreational purposes.
Officials said 60 licenses will be doled out during the first phase, which is open 8 a.m. Oct. 1.
“[It] is a very exciting day for our city,” Mayor Mike Duggan said in a press release. “It [is] the first day that people will be able to apply for a recreational marijuana license and we are going to make sure there is equity in this process for Detroiters.”
The city said the licenses will be split up as follows:
• 40 Retail: Allows a business to sell marijuana and related products from licensed growers and processors to adult consumers for recreational purposes
• 10 Micro-Business: Allows a small business to vertically integrate by growing and processing up to 150 plants and selling the resulting products to adult consumers for recreational purposes
• 10 Consumption Lounge: Allows a commercial location to host adults to consume marijuana products
