DETROIT (WWJ) – Police in Detroit believe horseplay may have played a role in the death of a 14-year-old boy who was fatally shot Saturday night.

Authorities were called to a home on Chatsworth Street – near Warren Avenue and Alter Road on the city’s east side – around 7 p.m. Saturday on the report of a teen who had been shot.

Police said preliminary information indicated the victim and a friend were playing around with a gun and at some point their horseplay caused the gun to go off, according to multiple reports.

The exact circumstances of the shooting were still under investigation.

A firearm was not recovered, as of Saturday night.

Police said the victim’s parents were not home at the time of the shooting, but there were “individuals of adult age” at the home.
