DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search is on for a pair of people involved in a carjacking that was caught on camera on Detroit’s east side.

Detroit police say around 11:30 a.m. on April 17 a man was sitting in the driver’s seat of his white, 1995 Ford Ranger in the 4000 block of Anthony Wayne Drive in Midtown when an unknown man approached.

Surveillance video shows the man trying to open the door, before reaching in the open window and unlocking it. As the suspect tries to enter, the driver tried to fight him off, before sliding over.

The suspect drove out of the parking lot onto eastbound W. Forest Avenue with the victim still in the truck. The man was able to exit the vehicle in the area of Forest and Second Avenue, while the suspect continued to drive away.

Police say the vehicle was recovered two days later, abandoned at a gas station in the 3400 block of Fenkell Avenue.

Police say a different man was seen exiting the truck and walking away. He is considered a person of interest in the case.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 6-feet tall to 6-foot-2, 190-200 lbs. He was last seen wearing a tan coat with a black hooded sweatshirt underneath, black pants and white shoes.

The person of interest is described as a black man wearing a yellow shirt, black pants and white and blue shoes.
