DETROIT (WWJ) – The search is ongoing for a pair of “armed and dangerous” suspects who opened fire on Detroit’s east side Thursday afternoon, killing a 13-year-old and leaving another teen hospitalized.

The two teens were standing outside a home in the 13900 block of Frankfort – near Warren and Chalmers – when they were approached by two armed suspects, Detroit Police Chief James White said.

The suspects fired shots, striking both teens. The suspects then fled, believed to be on foot.

The second victim, age 17, was taken to a hospital. White said he wasn't sure of their condition, but believed they were expected to recover.

White said the suspects may have gotten into a car waiting for them, but authorities are in the early stages of the investigation, searching for any video evidence in the area.

White said police are still looking for a possible motive in the case, and are working to determine how the suspects may have known the victims.

"It's not random, but we don't know the connection yet," the chief told reporters. "...I mean, this is a very violent episode. And the way that we have pieced together what happened thus far suggests that it's not random, but we don't know the connections just yet.

Police believe both suspects are teens, who were wearing blue jeans and dark clothing. There is no further description at this time.

Friday morning, a DPD spokesman told WWJ Newsradio 950 that there was no update yet to share about the case.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen something in the area to call Detroit Police or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (800-773-2587).

Stay tuned to WWJ for the latest details on this developing story.
