DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are asking for the public’s help tracking down a man accused of robbing a dollar store on the city’s northeast side.

It happened last Friday, April 21, around 12:15 p.m. at the Family Dollar store near Mound Road and Outer Drive.

The suspect walked up to the counter as if he was going to make a purchase, but as the employee began to scan the item, the suspect pulled out a gun, according to Detroit police.

He then reached over the counter and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, before running out of the store.

The suspect, described as 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8 and possibly in his 50s, was wearing a blue and gold jacket with a large Notre Dame leprechaun logo on the back.

Police on Thursday  released a photo of the suspect outside the store in hopes someone in the community can help lead investigators to the suspect.

Anyone who recognizes him or knows something about the Family Dollar robbery is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s 11th Precinct at 313-596-1140 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
