DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a driver they say is responsible for a hit-and-run crash that killed a 46-year-old man who was riding a motorized bike last week on the city’s east side.
Police say the victim was riding his motorized bicycle westbound on East Outer Drive near Gunston, just southeast of Gratiot Avenue, just after midnight on Aug. 19 when he was struck by a vehicle.
Medics took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities believe he was hit by a 2014 burnt orange Dodge Journey, which was seen on surveillance camera at a Project Greenlight location fleeing the scene, westbound on Outer Drive.
Police have released the video, asking the public to come forward with any information regarding the hit-and-run crash. Anyone who knows something about the incident or recognizes the vehicle is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s Fatal Squad Unit at 313-596-2260.
Calls can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
