DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are asking for help in tracking down a man accused of a non-fatal shooting on the city’s west side Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses told police William Gregory Hicks had gotten into an argument with someone at a home in the 1600 block of Burlingame Street -- near Chicago Boulevard and M-10, the John C. Lodge Freeway -- when things turned violent.
It’s not entirely sure what led up to the incident, but police say Hicks pulled out a gun and shot the victim once, around 3:30 p.m.
Detroit police officers responded to the scene in the Dexter Linwood neighborhood, and had believed he remained inside the home on Burlingame, but after further investigation, special units discovered Hicks was not at the location. It’s not clear when or how Hicks slipped away.
Authorities have released a photo of Hicks, but did not disclose his age. Police are asking anyone who has any information about the shooting or Hicks’s whereabouts to contact the Detroit Police Department’s Second Precinct at 313-596-5240. Calls can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
Police have not released any details about the victim, but did say they were taken to a nearby hospital and were last listed in stable condition.
