DETROIT (WWJ) – The search for a suspect is underway after a member of the Metro Detroit Police and Fire Bagpipes & Drums had their vehicle – and their bagpipes – stolen over the weekend.

Detroit police say the theft happened Saturday outside the Gaelic League Irish American Club on Michigan Avenue, near Wabash Street in Corktown.

The suspect stole a dark gray, 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, with license plate No. 8JQG2.

The victim’s Celtic bagpipes and bagpipe gear were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft, police said.

The Metro Detroit Police and Fire Bagpipes & Drums is an organization that honors police and firefighters killed in the line of duty by playing music at funeral services, free of charge.

Authorities are asking anyone who knows something about the theft to call the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct at 313-596-5300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
