DETROIT (WWJ) - A large quantity of drugs, stolen guns, ammo and more were taken off the street after a state trooper conducting a traffic stop in Detroit discovered the criminal activity, authorities said.

Michigan State Police said the bust was conducted after the Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET) was tripped off by a Metro South trooper on Tuesday, June 13th.

MSP Public Information Officer First Lt. Mike Shaw explained the trooper was conducting a traffic stop when it turned into a full scale narcotics investigation.

When MNET detectives arrived at the scene in Detroit, they executed a search warrant. The search turned up cocaine, fentanyl, oxycodone and suboxone, all of which was seized by authorities.

They also found two handguns -- one of which was stolen -- an AR rifle with an obliterated serial number, one AK47 pistol known as a Draco, body armor, ammunition and $82,000 in cash.

The suspect -- whose identity remains unknown -- was arrested and lodged pending charges in the case.

Shaw said the incident is a reminder that traffic stops aren't always how they appear.

“These investigations can lead to arrests and seizures, like this one, where stolen guns are being taken off our streets and not being used against members of our community," Shaw added.
