(WWJ) At least two communities—Detroit and Washtenaw County--have called off vaccinations for Tuesday after at least seven inches of snow fell in metro Detroit.
Detroit has announced all of the COVID-19 vaccinations scheduled at the TCF Center on Tuesday have been rescheduled for Saturday.
The city says 3,000 appointments will be affected. The scheduled time of day of the vaccine will stay the same.
The second dose of the vaccine will remain scheduled for March 16.
Any person who scheduled a $2 ride for Tuesday should expect their ride to come at the same time on Saturday.
“We felt this was the right approach to deal with the fact that getting to the TCF Center (Tuesday) could be very difficult for a lot of people,” Mayor Mike Duggan said in a release. “Rather than have to reschedule a lot of people who might miss their appointments weeks down the road, it just made sense to shift everyone at once to a day weather should not be an issue.”
Anyone with a conflict on Saturday can contact the scheduling department at (313) 230-0505 to find a new time that’s convenient for them.
Washtenaw County has postponed all vaccinations at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center. The County said appointments will be rescheduled for a later date.
As of 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Oakland County Health Department said it will remain open for anyone who has an appointment. “Drive carefully and do not worry about arriving late if you plan to keep your appointment.”
They add they will reschedule for anyone who misses their appointment due to the inclement weather.
Macomb County also said it will remain open for vaccination appointments.
“If inclement weather makes it difficult for you to access our vaccination site, stay home,” an alert on the Health Department’s website reads.
The County said the Health Department will contact no-shows this week to reschedule, and no further action is needed.
Anyone with a vaccine appointment on Tuesday should consider contacting their County or Health System to double check the appointment is still on.
