The Michigan Department of Transportation received a $10 million federal grant to help fund its' plans to convert the train station building into a modern transportation hub, including bus, taxi and ride-sharing services.
The state would need to come up with the remaining cash to pay off the entire price tag.
The new station would be built on the current site on Baltimore Avenue and construction is expected to take two years.
MDOT said the project could begin in 2023.
