It's a WWJ EXCLUSIVE: An investigation is underway to determine if a Detroit school exposed players and spectators to COVID-19 in a bid to win a championship title.
WWJ's Vickie Thomas reports the Detroit Health Department is investigating a possible coronavirus outbreak involving the boys basketball team at Detroit Edison Public School Academy.
One parent, whose son played in a game against the Academy on Tuesday, says the game should've never been played because at least one of the Academy's players tested positive for the virus and the entire team should've been in quarantine.
A second game Tuesday was postponed so the gym could be cleaned. But did coaches and players knowingly take the court with coronavirus? An investigation is underway.
"Do I enjoy the restrictions? No. But I enjoy life," a parent said, demanding answers about why the game went on.
District play is taking part across the state.
As WWJ reported earlier this week, the Michigan High School Athletic Association says about 100 teams have opted out of the district games because of the coronavirus.
