SCIO TWP. (WWJ) – A suspected drunk driver from Canton is in custody after slamming into a Michigan State Police patrol car on I-94 early Monday morning, sending a trooper to the hospital.
MSP officials say it happened around 1:30 a.m. in Scio Township, just west of Ann Arbor.
A trooper from the Brighton Post was investigating a prior drunk driving crash along the westbound lanes of I-94 near Zeeb Road at the time of the crash.
Officials said the trooper’s patrol car was blocking part of the lane for the tow truck to take away the other vehicle when the suspect slammed into the back of the patrol car.
The 33-year-old suspect from Canton was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Authorities did not release the suspect’s name and did not disclose their BAC.
The trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities have not released any information about the initial crash.
