HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) -- One person is dead after being sideswiped by another vehicle changing lanes on the Davison Freeway in Highland Park.

At around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, a car traveling east on the freeway, just west of I-75, attempted to move into the right lane from the center.

The preliminary investigation shows that as the driver was changing lanes, they sideswiped a car that was already in the right lane.

Michigan State Police said the impact caused the innocent driver to lose control, strike the right concrete wall and then roll over multiple times.

When MSP troopers arrived on the scene of what they called a "serious" rollover crash, the victim was already taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The at-fault driver was transported to a hospital only for a blood draw, said MSP.

Eastbound Davison Freeway was closed at the Oakland Avenue exit for a few hours during the investigation.

Charges have not been released and the at-fault driver has not been identified.

The victim's next of kin has been notified. Their identity has not been released.
