ST. CLAIR COUNTY (WWJ) -- A medical issue caused a crash in St. Clair County that claimed the life of a 76-year-old man, says police.
On Monday afternoon, police got a call about a car driving erratically in Burtchville Township, which is north of Port Huron.
As deputies headed toward the area, more calls came in about the vehicle and how it was crossing over the centerline of the road. The final call that came in was about the car leaving the road and crashing.
According to authorities, the vehicle went off the road and lost control, hitting a fire hydrant and a utility pole.
Afterward, the car rolled over and then came to a stop in front of a store.
First responders were able to reach the driver, an elderly man from Richmond, and remove him from the vehicle.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to investigators, a medical-related issue caused the crash.
The road had to be closed for several hours due to electrical wires from the pole hanging over the road.
The name of the man has not been released, as the incident remains under investigation.
