Reports of overdoses are spiking again in Oakland County over the past two weeks and Sheriff Mike Bouchard says it's gotten to the point that deputies are responding to at least one OD a day.
Why the increase? Bouchard says a big part of the problem is an influx of Fentanyl through the southern border, with supplies up 43 percent.
"It's a huge frustration," Bouchard said. "First, you've got to try to stop the supply. And then you've got to get the people who are addicted and have this mental health problem into treatment. Diversion, out of the criminal justice system. It's kind of a two-prong effort. You can't have one without the other."
Fentanyl is 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine. It's so powerful that Bouchard says often deputies have to administer NARCAN several times to revive the user.
