ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) – Michigan State Police have a mystery on their hands after a drunk man told troopers he had been carjacked in a Burger King parking lot on Saturday.
MSP officials say it all happened around 6:45 p.m. when the man flagged troopers down near 8 Mile and Wyoming in Royal Oak Township.
The man, whose name and age weren’t released, was on foot at the time and told troopers he had been carjacked in the Burger King parking lot.
Troopers tried to get more details about the incident, but said “he was so highly intoxicated he was almost incoherent and couldn’t provide his phone number or address.”
The man was taken to a hospital for alcohol treatment and minor cuts and bruises, MSP officials said.
A few hours later, troopers talked to the man for a second time at the hospital and he told them he was pumping gas at a gas station when two Black men approached him and took his car.
He said his handgun was in the trunk of his car at the time of the reported carjacking.
The victim also told troopers he wasn’t entirely sure if his vehicle had actually been taken, officials said. Authorities did not say what type of vehicle was reportedly stolen.
MSP officials said the car and weapon were entered into the database, but ”at this point in time, it is unknown where this occurred or any other details regarding the incident.”
Troopers are expected to speak with the man again on Sunday after he sobers up, in hopes of learning more details.
