DTE Energy worker electrocuted on the job in Brighton

(WWJ) Authorities are investigating after a utility worker was killed on the job in Livingston County over the weekend.

According to Michigan State Police, the DTE Energy employee was working in Brighton, at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, trying to restore power to homes in the area when he came in contact with a live underground wire and was electrocuted.

Troopers with the MSP Brighton Post, assisted by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, EMS, and the Brighton and Howell fire departments, responded to the scene where they found the worker unresponsive.

The victim has been identified as a 41-year-old man from South Lyon.

DTE said in a statement that the worker, whose name has not been released, was committed to the community and company officials "view him as a hero." DTE asked for consideration and privacy for the employee’s family.
