DTE says 'no gas leak' after manhole cover reportedly sent flying during explosion in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - A large metal plate covering a man hole was reportedly sent sailing through the air after an underground explosion rattled a street in Highland Park Friday evening.

DTE told WWJ that they cleared the scene in the area of Connecticut and John R. after Highland Park Fire Department received reports of a gas explosion in an underground sewer around 7 p.m.

There were reports that the explosion blew the manhole cover off.

DTE officials said they checked the area and could not find a gas leak. There was no damage and no injuries.

At this time, there is no explanation for what happened.
