Experts say loneliness is the next deadly health epidemic in the U.S. — Think a social life can save you? Think again

(WWJ) Widespread loneliness in the U.S. poses health risks as deadly as smoking up to 15 cigarettes daily, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said this week — declaring the latest public health epidemic.

And a whole lot of people are affected, according to Murthy, who said about half of all Americans suffer from chronic loneliness.

On a new episode of The Daily J podcast, WWJ's Zach Clark learns that the mental affliction can also cause physical problems in those who are suffering.
