A cash reward of up to $2,500 is up for grabs to anyone who can provide tips that lead to the arrest of the driver who killed 27-year-old Jacob Fountain.

Authorities say Fountain was crossing Michigan Avenue near Middlebelt Road in Inkster around 2 a.m. on Sept. 7, when he was hit by a dark-colored Ford Flex.

The SUV was making a turn onto eastbound Michigan from northbound Middlebelt when it struck Fountain and continued eastbound on Michigan. The SUV was last seen on Michigan, crossing into Dearborn Heights at Beech Daly Road.

Fountain’s family said he was dropped off at his Garden City home the morning before he was killed and “chose to stay home all day to mentally and physically prepare for his new job starting the following day.”

Fountain’s mother went to his house the following day after he did not answer her calls, using her own key to let herself in after there was no answer at the door.

She called police and eventually filed a missing person’s report, which is when she found out he had been a victim of the hit-and-run crash.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for any tips that lead to an arrest in the case.

Anyone who has information regarding the crash can make anonymous calls to 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips can also be submitted anonymously at www.1800speakup.org. Tipsters can also text “CSM” followed by their tip to 274637.

All tipsters will remain 100% anonymous.
