Police said another vehicle drove towards Woods, and someone inside began shooting.
The shooting took place at 10066 Elmira St. and Wyoming Ave., near I-96, on the city's west side.
According to Crime Stoppers, Woods was dropping off a friend in the area at the time of the shooting. His intent that night, family members say, was to return home and accompany his girlfriend to his cousin's birthday party.

But he didn't make it home.
"It's really not OK; we're not OK," Woods' sister, Nicole Woodward said, at a news conference. "We want to know what happened, why this happened. Nobody is giving us no answers."
"We wanna know who killed our father," one of Woods' daughters added. "My daddy had 13 kids that (are) wondering why we will never see our father again... It hurts us more than anything... our daddy's never been away this long."
There is no description of the suspect or suspects at this time, and police have not disclosed a possible motive in the case.
Crime Stoppers on Tuesday renewed its call for tips, as Woods' family pleads with anyone who knows anything to come forward.
"Somebody knows something," Woodward said. "We're asking you to speak up, now! Tell us something!"
She said the family needs to know what happened so that they can find peace.
