ROSEVILLE (WWJ) -- The 12-year-old Roseville girl who was hit by a car while she was walking to school earlier this week is now hospitalized with a severe brain injury -- and her family is asking for support.

Julia Grace Wallace was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday near the intersection of Martin Road and Barkman Street, close to Roseville Middle School.

The intersection was closed for hours as police investigated the crash. The Roseville Police Chief Ryan Monroe told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the student was hit by a 21-year-old male driver who was heading east on Martin.

Wallace sustained brain swelling, so now the family is waiting to see if it will respond to treatment and medication.

As Wallace is in the hospital in critical condition, her aunt, Julianne DeBlauwe started a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for everyday expenses and medical costs. Her parents also take care of her older brother and younger twin siblings.

"We ask for your support and prayers for our little girl, Julia Grace Wallace, with our saddened hearts," wrote DeBlauwe on the fundraising page.

DeBlauwe also noted that Wallace turns 13-years-old on May 12.
