ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WWJ) – The smoke has settled after a fire broke out in the laundry room at a senior living facility in Rochester Hills on Thursday.
The Rochester Hills Fire Chief was the first on-scene shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bellbrook Independent Living facility at 873 Avon Road, where he found smoke in a basement hallway.
The building is an apartment and care facility where many senior citizens live, fire officials said.
Firefighters entered the building with their hoselines and found a commercial clothes dryer was the source of the fire.
Officials said the room was filled with heavy, black smoke, but crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Crews also used fans to clear the smoke from the building.
Evacuations were not necessary and no injuries were reported.
