DETROIT (WWJ) - The body of one person was discovered by fire crews after a suspicious fire engulfed a Detroit home early Friday morning, officials stated.

According to WWJ reporter Charlie Langton, the fatal fire broke out at a home in the 4350 block of Algonquin Street, in the area of Mack and Connor, on the city's east side around 5:45 a.m.

Detroit Police Captain Richard Firsdon is spearheading the investigation into the deadly incident which he described to Langton as "suspicious."

"Our scouts received a run over here to the residence on Algonquin for suspicious fire," Firsdon said. "Upon arrival, fire was on scene, they made the residence, they searched the residence and there was a decedent found in the kitchen."

Authorities have not said if the victim is male or female, but did say the person was the only occupant in the home when it went up in flames.

The fire was extinguished by fire crews, but arson investigators remain at the home to hunt for clues into how the blaze began.

Langton said the investigation remains active and no other details were released.
