FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) – Firefighters in Farmington Hills are being hailed as heroes after rescuing a woman from her burning home early Wednesday morning.
The 62-year-old woman is recovering at a regional burn center, thanks to the first responders’ quick response.
Firefighters and EMTs responded to the woman’s home in the 21300 block of Waldron Street around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, just minutes after receiving reports of a structure fire.
When crews showed up, they found the two-story home engulfed in flames, with a large fire visible on the first floor.
Crews immediately headed to the home’s backyard, where they found the woman at a second-floor bedroom window, enveloped in smoke.
Firefighters were able to climb a ladder and rescue the woman, bringing her to safety.
First responders provided advanced life support, before she was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills. Fire department officials say the woman was further stabilized at the hospital before being transferred to a regional burn center.

Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire, but Chief John Unruh says it appears to be accidental.
“A Farmington Hills resident was rescued and given the chance to survive a tragedy today due to the outstanding professionalism of dispatchers and the aggressive actions of first-arriving firefighters,” Unruh said.
A preliminary investigation revealed the home did not have any working smoke alarms, the department said. Officials are taking that opportunity to remind residents to install working smoke alarms on each level of their home and to change the batteries whenever clocks are changed for Daylight Saving Time.
If you need a smoke alarm, call 248-871-2800. The Farmington Hills Fire Department provides smoke alarms free of charge to residents.
