(WWJ) – When NASA released the first images from the $10 billion James Webb Telescope this week, a couple things happened. Not only did we get some gorgeous pictures of space, we got a reminder of just how big our universe is – and just how small we are.

NASA’s photos show a “very, very, very, very small piece of the sky,” according to Mike Narlock, the head of astronomy at the Cranbrook Institute of Science. Within that small sliver of space we see some stars – the ones with “spikes coming off them. Everything else is a galaxy.

So what did we learn from these images? What value does the Webb telescope hold for us here on Earth? WWJ’s Zach Clark spoke to some experts to get some answers in the latest edition of the Daily J podcast.
