FLINT (WWJ) -- A 17-year-old Flint high school student is facing felony charges after threatening to commit a school shooting.
The girl, a Flint Southwestern Classical Academy student, was charged as a juvenile with one count of false threat of terrorism and one count of using a computer to commit a crime -- each being a 20-year felony.
"My message to our community has been loud and clear over the years whenever we have had instances of so-called 'copycat threats' following a school shooting or other mass shooting incidents around the country and that message is that it is not a joke, it is a crime and it will be treated as such," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.
The police investigation revealed that student was on her way to school Thursday morning in a school bus when she allegedly recorded the threatening video on her phone.
In a "rap-style message," she threatened to shoot up the school "like Oxford," and posted it to social media.
"Oxford is not that far from Genesee County and my heart goes out to the families of the victims, the school and the entire Oxford community," said Leyton.
The prosecutor said an assistant principal at the school was alerted to the incident on Thursday and made a report to the Flint Police Department.
Police said the student was arrested at school and did not have any weapons in her possession.
