(WWJ) – A Flint woman is facing charges for allegedly stealing upwards of $3 million from a married man she was having an affair with.

Constance Marie Roberts, 66, was arraigned in Flint’s 67th District Court on four counts each of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of $100,000 or more and failure to file taxes, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Monday.

The AG’s office alleges Roberts took large sums of money and multiple vehicles from the victim.

Each count of embezzlement is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, while the tax counts are felonies punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

Officials allege Roberts was in a long-term relationship with the victim, a married man who was 20 years older than her. His hometown was not released.

Over the course of their relationship, the victim would “occasionally give Roberts small gifts of money and property,” according to Nessel’s office.

But Roberts allegedly began to take advantage of this arrangement by “obtaining large sums of money” and multiple vehicles when the victim “started to exhibit cognitive decline.”

She allegedly completely drained the victim’s checking and savings accounts, with a combined balance of approximately $3 million, between 2018 and 2021, according to Nessel’s office.

She also allegedly failed to report the income on her Michigan tax returns.

“Many older adults have saved for retirement their entire working lives, and sadly they must also plan to protect their assets from people in their lives who would take advantage of them,” Nessel said, per a press release. “My office will continue to investigate and prosecute complaints of financial exploitation committed against seniors and other vulnerable adults.”

Roberts is due back in court on July 20.
