ALBION (WWJ) – There’s a gator search underway in Michigan.

Officials with Albion College say the Whitehouse Nature Center near the campus was forced to close over the weekend due to two separate reports of alligator sightings in the Kalamazoo River in the area.

School officials were working with the nature center and the Michigan DNR after people reported seeing “what is thought to be a four- to five-foot alligator” around the same time in the same vicinity.

There has been no confirmed sighting of an alligator after multiple searches following the reports.

The school, however, says it is “taking every precaution to ensure the safety of the campus and the surrounding community.”

The Whitehouse Nature Center will remain closed until further notice.

The reports come just days after a Dearborn Heights man reported seeing a baby alligator in his backyard.
