(WWJ) On a frigid day in metro Detroit, we worked together to bring warmth for local families in need.
Once again our generous listeners opened their heart and their wallets, helping WWJ Newsradio 950 raise a whopping $416,000 in heating assistance for families in need in our 18th Annual Winter Survival Radiothon for THAW, The Heat and Warmth Fund.
What's it all about? Some people might not think twice about turning up their thermostat a few degrees. Unfortunately, thousands of families in southeastern Michigan cannot even afford to heat their homes or keep the lights on. Some have even faced the situation of choosing between warmth or providing food and medication for their families.
To help provide assistance to families facing such a crisis, WWJ and THAW partner for this annual fundraising event.
It's been an especially tough year for many in metro Detroit. With families and residents spending more time at home to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, we know that people are using more energy and utilities.
And because that increase in utility use inevitably results in higher heat and lighting bills, now more than ever families across the state are in need of help to survive the winter.
Here's he good news: While this year's radiothon has ended it's never too late to give.

THAW assists families in need by preventing utility shut-off, providing fuel or restoring services. Over 92 cents of every single dollar raised by THAW goes directly to those in need, and THAW’s utility partners match every dollar that THAW raises so that $1 becomes $2 in energy assistan
Last year, THAW assisted nearly 18,000 Michigan families’ thanks in part to the WWJ Winter Survival Radiothon for THAW.
