LIVONIA (WWJ) A good Samaritan led Livonia Police to a suspected “porch pirate.”

The resident saw an alert from police earlier about an unknown person stealing packages from a porch.

Livonia Police said the woman saw the suspect and a vehicle near Middlebelt and Oakview. She called the cops, gave them the suspect’s license plate number, and told them where the alleged porch pirate was going.

Officers made a traffic stop and arrested Kiasha Smith from the state of Georgia. The 26-year-old was charged with larceny. She originally gave officers a fake name, according to a Livonia Police press release.

Authorities told WWJ Smith was involved in a Retail Fraud in Livonia earlier in November. She has been arraigned on charges of Larceny, Disguise and Retail Fraud. She is due back in court on December 15.

Police said you can deter “porch pirates” from taking your packages by getting the parcels off the porch as soon as possible, asking the delivery person to put them in a place where they’re not visible, or purchasing a lockable porch box for deliveries to be placed inside.
