
(WWJ) A metro Detroit man is jailed on attempted murder and other charges in a shocking case of domestic violence.
The Harper Woods Department of Public Safety says 34-year-old James Lewis Carlock of Harper Woods appeared for an arraignment in 32-A District Court on Wednesday.
It's alleged that the afternoon of Monday, July 12, Carlock and his girlfriend were arguing at the home they shared in the 18000 block of Elkhart.
During the argument, investigators said Carlock poured gasoline on the victim then set her on fire. He then allegedly stole his girlfriend's car, and fled the area.
Harper Woods detectives found Carlock in Detroit, driving the stolen vehicle, and arrested him with help from Detroit Police.
The woman, whose name was not released, was rushed to a local hospital where she is being treated for her burn injuries. She was last reported in stable condition and is expected to recover, officials said.
Carlock is charged with the following felony counts: Assault With Intent To Murder, Assault With Intent To Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Motor Vehicle -Unlawful Driving Away and Domestic Violence.
He was also given a Habitual Fourth Offense notice due to his previous felony convictions, police said.
Michigan Department of Corrections records show Carlock's priors include robbery, auto theft and firearms offenses.
Bond in this case was set at $150,000 cash and his next court date, a preliminary exam, was scheduled for July 28.
Carlock faces up to life in prison is convicted as charged.
