
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY (WWJ) - An intruder carrying a knife was shot in the leg by a homeowner after he allegedly broke a residence over the weekend in Southwest Michigan, state police said.
According to Michigan State Police, a male intruder allegedly entered the home in the 60000 block of Maple Road in Constantine Township, close to Three Rivers, around 10 p.m. on Friday.
When police arrived at the scene, troopers found the suspect on the ground outside with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh. The homeowner told troopers that the man had a knife, prompting the homeowner to shoot him.
State police rendered aid to the injured man before EMS took him to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. He underwent surgery for his injuries and is said to be in stable condition.
MSP is continuing to investigate the shooting. No other details have been released.
