Beyond Selfridge, how did Macomb County become Michigan's 'arsenal of defense'?

(WWJ) – This month aircraft from Selfridge Air National Guard Base are participating in Northern Strike, one of the Department of Defense’s largest reserve component readiness exercises.

Selfridge, along with the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, give Macomb County a place in the national defense picture. But it goes far beyond that.
