DETROIT (WWJ) -- When you see the 'Old English D' on a hat or a shirt, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? It might not necessarily be baseball.
Although it's served as a logo for the Detroit Tigers franchise for well over a century, the stylized letter in that iconic font has also transformed into a symbol for Detroit as a whole.
Through the years, many have donned the 'D' to display their hometown pride, with some famous examples including Tom Selleck in "Magnum P.I.", as well as artists like Big Sean, Alice Cooper and Kid Rock, among others.
But with so many other well-known sports franchises in the city, what is it about the Old English D that has resonated so strongly with Detroiters?
On a new episode of The Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark learns about the history of the logo, talks with Tigers catcher Eric Haase about wearing it for the first time as a player, and finds out how the D came to represent Detroit pride.
