OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WWJ) – They’re a sure sign of spring in Metro Detroit – orange construction barrels.
They’ll be popping up all over the area in coming weeks, including along I-96 in western Oakland County, where the Michigan Department of Transportation this week began work on the $269 million flex lane project.
As the project – expected to take about three years to complete – gets underway, WWJ’s Zach Clark finds out on this edition of The Daily J what exactly flex lanes are, and why they’re being used more in Michigan.
MDOT officials say the project will support thousands of local jobs and and revamp an "important route for commuter, commercial and tourism traffic.
