OAK PARK (WWJ) - Police are looking for leads in a hit-and-run crash after an injured man was found laying on I-696 in Oakland County early Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police said they responded to the area near Coolidge and Oak Park around 2:40 a.m. after several callers reported a man laying on a freeway ramp.

Once troopers and Oak Park Public Safety officers arrived on scene, they found the man on the ground on the right shoulder close to a vehicle.

Witnesses at the scene told authorities that they did not see the crash, but saw the injured man laying in the freeway and moved him to the shoulder.

The victim received medical care at the scene and was taken to a local hospital for further treatment -- his condition is unknown at this time.

Troopers said in a statement that witnesses believe the driver of a dark colored car may have been involved in the crash.

The investigation remains on going.
