DETROIT (WWJ) – When it comes to Detroit, our city has plenty of nicknames. The Motor City, Motown, The D, Hockeytown. But among the most famous is a simple set of numbers: 313.

Detroit’s 313 area code has become synonymous with the city over the years, thanks in part to pop culture. But over the last several weeks we’ve learned we’re running out of 313 phone numbers, and a change is on its way.

On a new Daily J podcast this 313 Day, WWJ’s Zach Clark takes a look at why the area code means so much to the city, and just what we can expect with the new 679 area code expected to come in the next two years.
