(WWJ) The state is cracking down on more metro Detroit businesses that are still allowing customers to dine indoors.
The Michigan Liquor Control Commission issued emergency suspensions of liquor licenses for Sahara Restaurant in Sterling Heights, Plymouth ROC in Plymouth, Brooklyn's in Wyandotte, and Powell's Tavern in Ypsilanti.
The businesses will be allowed to state their case during virtual hearings scheduled to take place on Wedneday.
The state says the businesses violated current orders by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, regarding faces coverings and public gatherings. State officials say the violations "pose an immediate threat to the health, safety, and welfare of the public," adding: "Allowing this activity to continue could create additional outbreaks of COVID-19."
The liquor licenses of 31 businesses across the state have been suspended since September, for various COVID-19 order violations.
Currently, indoor dining is not permitted, with bars and restaurants statewide restricted to carryout and delivery service only. On Tuesday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said that statistics show the indoor dinning ban has indeed been working to slow the virus' spread in Michigan.
The public can report any suspected non-compliance issue at an establishment directly to the MLCC by filing a complaint with the MLCC Enforcement Division online or by calling the division’s hotline, toll-free, at 866-893-2121. Not sure about the rules? MLCC’s website at www.michigan.gov/lcc provides information on the MDHHS Emergency Order, indoor service restrictions, face mask requirements and FAQ for restaurants and bars.
