HARTLAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Four dogs were rescued and authorities are working to capture nearly a dozen cats from a hoarding situation discovered at a Livingston County home.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office said animal control was first alerted to the condition of the home in Hartland Township last Thursday, April 13th, when a caller reported hearing animals inside, but that they hadn't been seen ever going out in the yard.

Deputies were dispatched to the property and discovered the home in "rough shape" with piles of trash covering the floor and littering countertops.

Authorities said four dogs were located inside and relocated to the Livingston County Animal Shelter for veterinary care. Efforts are still underway by animal control deputies to capture 10 cats still loose inside the home.

According to the sheriff's office, the residents living at the address are receiving help from the Livingston County Home Health & Safety Coalition.

Authorities urges anyone who has an animal welfare complaint, to please call Central Dispatch's non-emergency line at (517) 546-9111.

"If you or someone you know is struggling with hoarding behaviors, the Livingston County Home Health & Safety Coalition is here to help," deputies added.
