BRIGHTON (WWJ) - A 16-year-old is facing possible criminal charges after police say the teen sent an alarming text message threatening to shoot and kill fellow students at Livingston Christian School in Brighton.

Classes at the private school located off Brighton Road were cancelled Thursday (Dec. 15) after administrators were made aware of the text message just after 3 p.m. Wednesday which was sent from one student to another.

“Tomorrow I’m going to bring a gun to school and kill you, don’t come to school tomorrow," the text read, according to state police investigating the incident.

Troopers said the classmate who received he message immediately reported it to the assistant principal, who then contacted Livingston County Central Dispatch.

Upon investigation, MSP said the 16-year-old student admitted to being the sender.

"It was determined the student does not have access to firearm(s) to carry out this threat," troopers added.

The school was closed Thursday out of caution while local police conduct extra patrols.

Troopers said the teen was suspending until further notice and was released to his parents -- he now faces criminal charges for the alleged threat pending a Livingston County Prosecutor's review.
