(WWJ) A Livonia man is dead after a struggle with a Dearborn Police officer.
Michigan State Police have been called in to investigate the incident that happened Thursday night, at the Falcon Inn on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn.
Police said the 38-year-old Livonia man was at the motel, at around 8:30 p.m., when a report came in about someone yelling "call the police." A caller also said there was a man was holding the door to a motel room shut, preventing someone from leaving.
When a police officer arrived at the inn he scuffled with the "agitated" man, the Dearborn PD said, and the man became unresponsive.
Life-saving measures at the scene failed, and the man was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Dearborn Police officers involved in this incident have been placed on administrative duty, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said his department is cooperating with MSP.
The chief added, in a statement: “Our condolences go out to the decedent’s family. I have confidence that this incident will be thoroughly investigated. Once the investigation is completed full and transparent disclosure will be forthcoming.”
