LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) -- Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced in a social media video Sunday evening.

Gilchrist says he has no symptoms and is fully vaccinated. He will isolate "for the appropriate amount of time" and continue to maintain a virtual work schedule.

"I’m grateful that being vaccinated protects against serious illness," Gilchrist said. I encourage everyone to keep doing all they can to keep each other safe."

Gilchrist said he takes COVID-19 "very seriously" and feels it's important to share his story.

"My two-year-old baby girl, ruby, began to experience a runny nose and a mild fever -- symptoms consistent with the virus," he said in the video. "So we immediately tested her and everyone else in our family."

The Lt. Gov. says they have quarantined the family and taken "every measure we could to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus further."

Glichrist's announcement comes days after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced she was isolating after her husband tested positive for the virus last week.
